BREAKING: Nigerian Police Release Activist, Sowore, After Illegal Arrest

The Nigeria Police Force has released human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.

The police had on Thursday illegally arrested Sowore over a frivolous petition by a former member of the House of Representatives, Ned Nwoko.

“Released from Nigeria Police Force idiotic arrest and detention. They claimed I defamed a criminal, Ned Nwoko! Useless people. ‪#RevolutionNow‬ ‪#WeCantContinueLikeThis,” the activist posted on Twitter after his release.‬

A team of armed policemen who laid siege to the entrance of the Court of Appeal had earlier arrested Sowore.

He was subsequent taken to the office of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit, otherwise known as Abattoir, located at Guzape.

Sowore's lawyers, Abubakar Marshal and Inibehe Effiong, who rushed to the facility were also prevented from seeing him.

The police officers attached to the gate asked the lawyers to vacate the premises, claiming there was no authorisation for them to see him.
